Can you guys recommend a good place to order some sway bar quick disconnects for a 2nd generation 4Runner?

I see that 4Crawler has a couple different designs. Anyone have experience with these?

I'd think they are something you should be able to make yourself fairly easily.

i think wab fab has em. can't remember for sure though.

4crawler and wabfab have them. if you take a close look at them, you can pretty much put together a parts list and make a set. or you could do like many 2nd gen owners, remove the sway bar altogether!

mine has been off the truck for several years now, the one caveat to keep in mind is, increased body roll in sudden maneuvers. back off the speed and keep more distance between you and the vehicle in front and it shouldnt be an issue.

I did notice the increased body roll on the small trip I took around the block until my brakes went ppffffffffffftttttttttt. :(

The additional body roll can be attributed to the torsion bars being relaxed as well.

My concern is for the wellbeing of my co-pilot. I want to ensure that the truck is up to par for the safety of my 7 year old son as he'll be accompanying my on most of the off-road excursions. Keeping speed down and extra space between you and the vehicle in front does not prevent some idiot from cutting in front of you forcing you into a high speed maneuver.

On the other side of the coin, $100 for a handful of parts does seem a bit steep.

I'm debating what I want to do. :geek:

I don't mind manufacturing something... it's the sourcing of parts/materials I don't enjoy. End up spending a lot of time researching and running around.

I'm also limited in regards to the metal work tools I have available although I'm guessing the most you'd need is a drill press.

Maybe if there's enough interest we can come up with a design and do a group thing.

Just a thought.

the only place youll need to worry about the lack of a anti sway bar is on the road. you are correct in your example of emergency avoidance maneuvers. as an example from my experience, i used to take the townline rd exit from the 401 to work in my truck. i would enter the ramp at 100kph and lift as the curve began, coasting through and exiting just over 80kph onto townline rd. the merge lane is short and there are a set of traffic lights maybe 100m from that point.

i guess the point im trying to get at is, get to know how your truck handles in as many real life situations as you can. if that means finding an empty parking lot and practicing evasive maneuvers, emergency braking or high speed sweeping turns, do it. if you dont know how your truck will respond when you have to react quickly, it wont end up good.

you still have the rear anti sway bar in place, correct? if so, this helps in steadying your truck, not like having both in place but it will help. if you are at stock height, your cog has not been compromised either. being aware of your surroundings while driving is paramount. you can usually spot the idiot driver and anticipate his action thereby lessening your potential for having to make sudden directional changes.

remember, as you modify your truck you must modify your driving habits. its not a car and doesnt respond like one. its a truck with too many creature comforts for its own good!
