Now I've gotta get my in-dash winch controller finished and wired in... Maybe I'll work on that today...

Haven't done this yet! Got really lazy!!!

So here is what I'm working on now!

Rim Cleaning & Painting to Match “The Donkey”

Here is my second set of 15”x7” factory Aluminum rims.

Image

I've sat on these trying to decide what to do with them for a number of years. Their original use was for a pair of 31” At's that “The Donkey” sported all winter. After their retirement the question became, “What should I do with them? Sell? Keep? I've bounced back and forth between these two questions may a time! Even this morning (March 19 2010) I did it again! So while taking these pictures for possible sale I decided that the rims looked like shit, so paint, and keep them I will!

So here they all in all their pre-prep glory!

Image

I will be taking multiple wire wheels and wire brushes and such to them, to see what I can come up with!

The paint will be that Canadian Tire/Walmart OD Green Camouflage spray paint and some clear coat for protection! They will be primed, painted, and clear coated!

Here is the paint.

Image

Here is a comparison between the non-prepped rim (left) and the prepped rim after about 30 minutes with a drill and a wire wheel(right). Not quite done, but I need more wire wheels!

Image

Here is a closeup of the in process rim.

More to come as it progresses!

Finally installed the in-cab winch wiring. Haven't decided on a spot for the switches yet, so they are in a temporary bracket for the time being.

The install is on my Superwinch LP8500. It's the one you can get at Canadian Tire.

Sorry for the crappy pictures!

Image

I used an old 3 wire extension chord as per one of the write ups I found on the Internet - can't seem to locate it right now. Rest assured I will link it when I find it.

The switches are an SPST from ebay, and a DPDT momentary from TSC.

Image

So now I have the ability to use the original controller from the outside, or the in cab setup from the comfort of my seat. Also this gives me a backup if/when the original controller fails to function. I will also post a picture when I decide on the final resting place of the controller.

Enjoy!

i have the same wheels and the previous owner painted them black and they look pretty decent but ive been thinking about doing smiler to you and wire brushing them and sanding them down and then i was thinking if they looked good enough just clear coating them.

Put the spare rims on the back burner for a bit... Been working on this....

This pile of parts are....
1. Factory Toyota Pickup Axle (factory leaf spring hangers)(Picked this up about 4 or 5 years ago - you can find it on Yotatech in one of my threads)
2. 1988 2wd F150 leafs - 3+overload and factory Ford spring plates... (Free)

All springs (and the axle) were disassembled and wire wheeled then painted with the new formulation of Tremclad's flat black Rustoleium - STINKY!

Just waiting on the anti-friction pads and Energy Suspension Bushings... Should be in about the middle of this coming week!

Yay for me!
