link works! so, the hold down mech for the tire is hidden between the wheel and gate? nice idea and security as well. thats a pretty neat idea and it looks plenty sturdy. if you have some sort of sketches for it, that would be something id like to check out further for my runner.

the swing outs seem to have issues with the pivot hinge/brg combo with stresses that cause them to crack and break at the base of the pivot pin. a friend of mine made a swing out for his rubicon with integral gas can holders. it worked well for the better part of a year before the pin broke off at the surface of the bumper. it looked like the metal crystallized at the weld point of the pin and bumper.

did you or are you going to put in zerks?

Ill get more pics up tomorrow. We finished up at like 11 last night so the ones I posted are a little blurry and dark.

If you can picture this in the meantime.. 2 shock tab lookin brackets on each bushing sleeve (on carrier, sleeves do have zerks) that act as stops. One shock tab lookin bracket on the bumper. Receiver pin goes through the 1st one on the sleeve, then through the "middle" one on the bumper then through the 2nd sleeve mounted tab. This is repeated on the other side of the carrier. So basically 6 tabs and 2 pins.

The weight of the tire is "centered" over the pivot mounts so all the pins do is keep the thing closed and the 4 tabs keep it away from the body.....
